Sammy Hagar & the Circle just unveiled a new single, "Father Time," which Hagar says is the most personal song he's ever released.
The deeply reflective song from The Circle's Crazy Times album, arrives as a single a week after Hagar celebrated a milestone birthday. The music video illustrates Hagar's life story through rare, personal photos.
Hagar wrote the song almost five years ago at his home in Maui. He says he was in a reflective mood looking out over the ocean when the words came to him. He picked up his guitar, pressed record on his phone and wrote almost the whole song on the spot.
"When I first wrote 'Father Time, I kept it from everyone because it was so personal that I’d get too choked up to actually sing it," Hagar said. "I wrote it just after turning 70 while I was at our then home in Maui. ... I cried my eyes out after I wrote and played it back. It’s probably the most personal song that I’ve ever written and now, after just turning 75, I’m finally ready to release it.”
